Glanteenassig Lakes and Valley, County Kerry.

About three miles off the main road which leads toward Dingle on the Conor Pass route, is the sheer beauty of Glanteenassig.

The drive off the road in toward the hidden lakes is a winding little journey alongside fields of beautiful Kerry farm land. As one approaches the surroundings become more and more impressive, Stradbally and Benoskee mountains towering up above ones sights.

I have had this valley described to me as a scene one would expect to find in Canada. The government planted a substantial pine forest in the region in the 1960's and it is harvested to that purpose today.

There are two spectacular lakes enclosed by the valley, one of these is a sanctioned and tended fishing lake, permits are required. The setting is truly inspiring, a sanctuary of peace and tranquility, while also uplifting via its enormous energy.

Hikes up and over these mountains allow for exceptional views, while these are not necessarily demarcated routes, one can with a measure of safety navigate with success over a rewarding journey.
